What does MH mean in a vehicle number?

MH stands for Maharashtra. The first two letters of any Indian vehicle registration number are the state code. MH01 is Mumbai South, MH12 is Pune, MH30 is Nagpur, and so on.

How do I find which city a car is registered in?

Look at the first 4–5 characters of the number plate. Enter them in this tool. For example, KA05 means Tumkur, Karnataka and TN16 means Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

What is my RTO code?

Your RTO code depends on the city where your vehicle was registered. It is the 2-letter state code followed by a 2-digit (or 2-character) district code. For example, if your car was registered in Pune, your RTO code is MH12.

How many RTOs are there in India?
